This is brief overview of our Band program’s “Scrip” fundraiser, which is conducted on an ongoing basis throughout the year. This is a great way to add funds to your student's individual band account to offset costs for music lessons, band trips, band supplies, or Band Camp.

Put simply, you buy gift cards for gift-giving or for your own shopping needs, and a percentage is deposited into your student's individual account.

Gift-Giving: If you buy gift cards for birthdays or the holidays, you can buy them through the Scrip program. They are identical to the cards you purchase at stores or restaurants, but there is a big difference – you get a percentage back.

Your own shopping needs: You can use these cards to purchase your own gasoline, clothing, home improvement needs, restaurant meals, etc.  You would be surprised how quickly these amounts can add-up!

There is a very extensive merchant listing on the website www.glscrip.com.
If you have any questions about this program, or if you would like to purchase some Scrip cards, please contact our program coordinator:

SCRIP ORDERS

FUNDRAISING FOR YOUR STUDENT

“Scrip” actually means substitute money, and comes in the form of gift cards and/or gift certificates issued by the participating retailers. These retailers have agreed to support non-profit organizations by selling large quantities of their gift cards to the GLSCRIP organization at a discount. We then purchase these gift cards from GLSCRIP at face value, and the difference in price goes to our organization (your child’s band account). For example, Max & Erma’s has decided to give a 13% discount to GLSCRIP participants. Therefore, if you order a $20 Max & Erma’s gift card, you will actually pay $20 and receive a gift card worth $20. Max & Erma’s only charges $17.40 for that gift card, donating the $2.60 balance to the organization (your child’s band account).

Hundreds of retailers participate in this program. Some of the more popular local participating retailers include: Arbys, Applebee’s, Kohl’s, Home Depot, Lowes, Blockbuster, Bath & Body Works, Macy’s, Speedway, Shell, Marathon, Borders, Amazon, Max & Erma’s, Men’s Wearhouse, Pizza Hut, KFC, Wendy’s, Gap, American Eagle, Banana Republic, Red Lobster, Panera, Pottery Barn, Old Navy, Office Max, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, JCPenney, Wal-Mart, Pei Wei, and many more !!

-         Go to www.glscrip.com to see the total list of stores/restaurants/services that can be purchased. Select the heading Order Scrip to what is available.

-         To place an order, either email or mail a list of what you would like to purchase, the denomination, and the quantity to Edie Veros Fitzpatrick (info below). You do not place the order yourself. One large order will be placed on behalf of the band.

-         Orders are placed when, as a group, we reach a minimum of $1000 in sales. This saves money on postage, which is covered by the Band Boosters.

-         When the order arrives (usually within 2 days of placement), you will be contacted to make arrangements for delivery and payment.

-         Checks should be made out to WLWBB (Walled Lake Western Band Boosters).

-         This is a great way to shop for the holidays! Invite family members and neighbors to order Scrip cards for the holidays, too. It makes shopping easy, and benefits you! However, place your orders early so we don’t end up with shipping deadline problems. GLSCRIP gets very busy, and usually the delivery is delayed during the holiday season.

-         If you choose, the revenue from your purchase can be donated to the general Band Booster fund. Just let us know when you place your order.

-         The money in each child’s band account can be used toward band-related expenses such as band camp, private lessons, reeds, purchase of an instrument, band trips. There is a form to fill out (with instructions attached) to withdraw from that account. It is available on the band website, www.wlwbands.com.
